I have my period, should I cancel my appointment?
There is no need for cancelling a new colposcopy appointment or treatment appointment as a period will not interfere with the colposcopy assessment. However, if a smear is also required (as in a follow up colposcopy appointment), then it may be better to avoid it during a period.
Do I need a GP referral letter?
GP referral letters are not needed unless you are claiming your visit on insurance and your insurer requires one. However, GP referral letters are helpful because they provide your information and history so if you do have one please bring it with you to your appointment.
Which insurance companies do you work with?
Our consultants are approved with a wide range of UK and international insurers. Please contact both your insurance company, and the clinic on 0207 10 11 700 (24hrs) for more information.
A letter from your GP and pre-authorisation is usually required unless in an emergency. Please quote the consultant’s GMC No (given below) when speaking to your insurance company.
(Mr Pisal: 4492142, Miss Evans 3462243)
Do you see international patients?
Yes, we do. However, we do not deal directly with all overseas insurers so you may need to settle your invoice at the time of your visit and claim back from your insurance company.
Can I request someone else to be present when the doctor is examining me?
Yes, a nurse is always available and present during examinations but you can, if you prefer, bring a friend or family member to your consultation and examination.
Is there a minimum age to see a doctor?
- Mr Pisal only sees patients 16 years and over.
- Miss Evans and Miss Bowring only see patients 18 years and over.
Any patient under 16 should make the practice aware when inquiring so we can contact the patient to understand more about their medical issue as it may be that the patient needs to be seen by another doctor.
Any patient under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by a parent / guardian (over the age 18) per hospital rules.
What happens if I ask to be seen/treated by a female doctor only?
We understand you may prefer to see a female gynaecologist when having a colposcopy.
Our Consultant Gynaecologists Miss Evans and Miss Bowring are happy to see all patients who request a lady doctor and require a colposopy.
Can I ask the doctor not to inform my family doctor or other healthcare professional about my treatment, condition or medical history?
Will I see the letters written to my doctor after a consultation?
If you ask us to correspond with your doctor or referring clinician, you will receive a copy of the letter.
If I’ve seen a doctor privately, can I switch back to non-private treatment at a later time?
In order to revert to non-private (NHS) treatment, you need to go back to your GP for a referral.
Are translation services available?
Depending on the hospital you are visiting, there are translation services available on a limited basis. If you require a translator, please inform us at time of booking.
Where would a patient be admitted if they needed a procedure?
Mr Pisal currently has admitting rights to the Portland Hospital, The Wellington Hospital, The Highgate Hospital and the Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth.
Miss Evans has admitting rights to The Portland Hospital.
Your consultant will help you choose one of these hospitals based on the planned surgical procedure and travelling convenience for you. These hospitals are approved by all the major insurance companies and you will not be limited to one hospital for your outpatient appointments or surgery.
