I have my period, should I cancel my appointment?
There is no need for cancelling a new colposcopy appointment or treatment appointment as a period will not interfere with the colposcopy assessment. However, if a smear is also required (as in a follow up colposcopy appointment), then it may be better to avoid it during a period.
-
Do I need a GP referral letter?
GP referral letters are not needed unless you are claiming your visit on insurance and your insurer requires one. However, GP referral letters are helpful because they provide your information and history so if you do have one please bring it with you to your appointment.

Can I request someone else to be present when the doctor is examining me?
Yes, a nurse is always available and present during examinations but you can, if you prefer, bring a friend or family member to your consultation and examination.
-
Is there a minimum age to see a doctor?
- Mr Pisal only sees patients 16 years and over.
- Miss Evans and Miss Bowring only see patients 18 years and over.
Any patient under 16 should make the practice aware when inquiring so we can contact the patient to understand more about their medical issue as it may be that the patient needs to be seen by another doctor.
Any patient under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by a parent / guardian (over the age 18) per hospital rules.

What happens if I ask to be seen/treated by a female doctor only?

Our Consultant Gynaecologists Miss Evans and Miss Bowring are happy to see all patients who request a lady doctor and require a colposopy. -
Can I ask the doctor not to inform my family doctor or other healthcare professional about my treatment, condition or medical history?
